I was introduced to Bevin through another mommy I interviewed. We met on a hot saturday in a park and I was fortunate enough to have both parents at the interview! It was our first shoot having a dad! Bevin and Yerman were so lovely! I loved meeting them and their adorable son Evren. It was great having an extra hand while trying to take pictures. Yerman helped out with getting Evren to look at the camera and smile. He was also the master at blowing bubbles.  Yerman is Turkish and carries a lot of his traditions into their home…including part of their bedtime routine. Evren’s name means Universe in Turkish. I loved hearing about their whole family bedtime routine.

Personal Tips for Moms

Evren- 1 year old.

Bevin and Yerman try to be consistent with Evren’s bedtime. He goes to sleep between 7:30-8 every night.

His bedtime routine is as follows…it is also done as a whole family.

  • After dinner he has usually made a mess so he takes a bath.
  • Evren has bath time before bed.
  • As they are walking to the bath they call it ‘Jip Jip Time,’ which is Turkish for splash time. They sing this in a song.
  • Evren loves bubbles! They blow bubbles in the bath tub….but, he has to sit and blow bubbles. No bubbles unless he sits.
  • After the bath they sing the brushing teeth song.
  • Everyone sings the brushing the teeth song, about brushing your teeth. Now he recognizes the song and opens his mouth to brush his teeth.
  • After he brushes his teeth Bevin puts cold pressed grape seed oil all over his whole body. She says it really helped his skin. Evren calls this a massage and says he wants massage time.
  • Yerman will then read to him while Bevin puts on his diaper and PJ’s and blanket sleep sack.
  • After he is ready for bed as a whole family they walk around the house and say good night to the house.
  • He will say “Goodnight kitchen” and then turn off the lights in the kitchen. The last room is his room and he turns off the lights and then goes straight to bed.
  • He knows his routine so well that by the end he knows its time to sleep.
Favorite Recipe
Turkey Meatballs
  • 1 lb organic ground turkey
  • 2 egg yolks
  • 1/2 cup cooked, puréed carrots
  • 2 or 3 tbsp applesauce
  • 1/2 cup baby rice or oat cereal
  • 1/2 cup shredded zucchini (squeeze out as much water as you possibly can before adding to mixture)
  • pinch of dried oregano
  • Handful of minced onions
  • Breadcrumbs as needed to firm up the mixture
  1. Preheat oven to 365 degrees F. Lightly oil a mini muffin tin.
  2. Mix all the ingredients together in a large bowl. If the mixture is too wet, add more cereal or breadcrumbs. If the mixture is too dry, add some more applesauce or carrots.
  3. Roll mixture into little balls and place in the prepared tin.
  4. Cook in oven for 35-40 minutes or until fully cooked. (I use a meat thermometer to be safe!)(You may also want to cover them with foil to prevent the outside of the meatballs for getting too dark/tough)
  5. Remove from oven and allow to cool.
